Floor Scrubber Maintenance Checklist
Daily, weekly and periodic checks that protect recovery, batteries, brushes, pads and uptime.
After every route, drain and rinse tanks, clean the squeegee and recovery path, inspect the pad or brush, wipe the machine and charge as directed. Add model-specific weekly and periodic checks from the manual; document defects before the next shift.
After each use
Drain into an approved location. Rinse the recovery tank, float or screen and accessible hose path; remove hair and debris from the squeegee and deck.
Inspect blade edges, pad or brush wear, wheels and visible leaks. Leave tanks open to dry only if the manufacturer directs it and the storage area prevents contamination.
Battery care
Follow the exact chemistry-specific charging sequence. Inspect connectors for heat, corrosion or damage and keep the charger’s ventilation clear.
Flooded batteries may require trained watering procedures at specified times. Sealed and lithium packs have different requirements; never transfer routines blindly.
Weekly and periodic work
Check solution filters, hoses, fasteners, deck skirts and squeegee adjustment at the intervals in the manual. Rotate multi-edge blades only as documented.
Review actual runtime and recovery quality. Gradual decline can reveal battery aging, vacuum leaks or worn consumables before a complete failure.
Use a service log
Record date, hours, pad or brush, chemical, defects and corrective action. A log connects repeated streaking or short runtime with the parts and procedures involved.
Escalate electrical, drive, brake or vacuum-motor work to qualified service. Maintenance is not permission to bypass guards or safety controls.
Complete the after-use work before soil dries
Daily maintenance begins when the cleaning run ends. Empty the recovery tank in an approved drain, rinse away sediment, and leave the lid open when the machine is stored so trapped moisture and odor do not build up. Drain or manage the solution tank according to the detergent and machine instructions. Never leave dirty recovered water sitting in the machine between shifts.
Remove hair, string, labels, and other debris from brushes or pad drivers. Inspect the squeegee assembly for grit and wipe both the front and rear blades. Clean the vacuum intake screen, float shutoff, and any accessible filters identified in the manual. A few minutes here prevents dried residue from becoming a suction problem on the next shift.
Inspect wear points on a regular schedule
At least weekly, examine squeegee edges for cuts, waves, hardening, and uneven wear. Many reversible blades can be rotated to expose a fresh edge, but only if the manufacturer permits it. Check brushes and pads for uneven wear, confirm hoses are seated and uncracked, and look beneath the machine for leaks. Tighten or adjust only the items the operator manual assigns to routine maintenance.
Battery care depends on battery chemistry. Flooded lead-acid batteries may require ventilation, terminal inspection, and water checks performed at the time and in the manner specified by the manufacturer. Sealed AGM, gel, and lithium systems have different requirements. Use the approved charger, keep charging connections clean, and do not apply lead-acid routines to another battery type.
Turn the checklist into a service record
Record operating hours, charging events, blade rotations, brush or pad changes, and reported symptoms. Hour-based records are more useful than relying on memory because two machines in the same building may accumulate very different use. Schedule professional service at the intervals in the manual and sooner when pickup, drive, braking, electrical, or charging behavior changes.
Store the scrubber indoors on a level surface with the deck raised if the manual directs it. Protect it from freezing, heat, and unauthorized use. Before returning it to service, verify that guards, covers, hoses, batteries, controls, wheels, and safety devices are secure. A maintenance checklist should preserve cleaning performance and catch deterioration; it should never substitute for model-specific instructions.
Assign responsibility for each item instead of assuming the next shift will handle it. Operators can complete cleaning and visual inspections, while designated maintenance staff address electrical, drive, brake, vacuum, and battery faults within their qualifications. Clear ownership, written defect reporting, and a lockout process help prevent a known problem from returning to the cleaning route.
